What is Orton-Gillingham?

A structured, multisensory way to teach reading.

A flexible approach — direct, explicit, sequential, and diagnostic — for teaching reading, writing, and spelling to people who struggle with literacy, including those with dyslexia. It reflects the work of Dr. Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham.

Every lesson engages three senses at the same time:

See
Letters and patterns made visual.
Hear
Sounds spoken, blended, and heard aloud.
Touch
Tracing and movement that anchor memory.

Because seeing, hearing, and touching happen all at once — not one after another — each sense reinforces the others in the same moment. That simultaneity is what builds the strong, lasting connections in the brain that make reading stick.

This is not a boxed curriculum. Every lesson is individualized — paced and designed around one student's strengths and needs.

Meet your tutor

Hi, I'm Lori.

I trained through the Orton-Gillingham Academy and work as an Associate-level practitioner under the mentorship of a Fellow. I hold a bachelor's in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University, taught first and second grade, taught English overseas, and spent eighteen years homeschooling my own children.

Teaching reading has always been my passion — especially helping struggling readers gain the tools and the confidence to succeed.

I don't rely on an "Orton-Gillingham-based" curriculum. I design each lesson for the individual learner — building strong neural pathways for reading and spelling, much like guided cognitive therapy for literacy.

Testimonials

What families say.

"Lori has worked with our son since 2nd grade, and his confidence in reading and writing has soared. He has progressed in school instead of the regression that held him back in 1st grade. He brings up the new words and rules he learned, and how they're used in everyday life. Even though it is work, our son thoroughly enjoys his sessions with Lori. We are truly blessed to have her help."
The Castellanos Family
"Thank you for working with him these several months. His confidence has skyrocketed. Parent-teacher conference wasn't as scary as before."
